Varanasi: An Ancient City On The Earth

Allahabad

Allahabad is crowned in ancient scriptures as ‘Prayag’, ‘Prayagraj’ or ‘Teertharaj’ and is considered the holiest of pilgrimage centres It is here that three mighty rigvers Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati join at the Sangam. The Kumbh every six years and Mahakukbh every 12 years are the largest gatherings of pilgrims on this earth It is not only a pilgrimage centre, but also an important literary, educational, historical and cultural centre.

Ayodhya

Famed as the birth place of Lord Ram, it is an important pilgrimage centre situated on the right bank of the river Ghagra or Saryu, about 110 km from Lucknow For centuries, it was the capital of the descendants of the Surya dynasty of which Lord Rama was the most celebrated king. Ayodhya during ancient times was known as Kaushal Desh. Skand and some other Puranas rank Ayodhya as one of the seven most sacred cities of Indi Ayodhya is pre-eminently a city of temples. Remnants of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam can still be found in Ayodhya According to Jain tradition,.

Chunar

40 Km. Chunar has an immense fort overlooking the Ganga. This place has been the scene of battles since 1540, when Sher Shah took it from Humayun. Akbar recaptured it in 1575. In the mid – 18th century it was appropriated by Awadh and subsequently, the British. The fort has a sun – dial and a huge well, and affords a splendid view of the Ganga.

Ram Nagar Fort

Ram nagar is 14 km. from Varanasi , on the opposite bank of river Ganga Ramnagar lies. The fort at Ramnagar houses a museum displaying the Royal collection which includes vintage Cars, Royal palkies, an armoury of swords and old guns, ivory work and antique clocks. The Durga Temple and Chhinnamastika Temple are also Located at Ramnagar.

Vindhyachal Dham

Sita Samahit Sthal

Sitamarhi temple is located in Bhadohi district. This temple is situated on the banks of Ganga river and 11 km from Jangiganj Bazar in the middle of Allahabad and Varanasi. It is believed that at this place Mother Sita had absorbed herself in the earth. Here is the 110 feet high statue of Hanuman ji, which has the distinction of being the world’s greatest statue of the Hanuman ji.

 

Markandey Mahadev Temple

Markandey Mahadev Temple is one of the famous temples of Lord Shiva. This temple is situated in Kaithi village, 30 kilometers from Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh, India. From Varanasi to Ghazipur highway, Kaithi village is visited. Lord Shiva is totally dedicated to this temple. Shri Markandeshwar Mahadev Dham is one of the main deities of the Purvanchal. Markandeya Mahadev Temple is one of the religious places of Uttar Pradesh.
